本設計的插畫故事深入介紹台灣傳統旗幟文化，尤其聚焦於民俗傳統旗幟的多元面貌，如大漁旗、廟用鯉魚旗、令旗、頭旗、菜刀旗，以及活動用的龍舟旗、普渡旗、督隊旗等，圖像設計將傳統旗幟文化圖樣進行深度拆解、分析和探討，完整呈現豐富多元的民俗色彩與圖像風格。在生活應用上透過製作創意胸章設計，使用者不僅能了解旗幟背後的文化故事和價值，更能在穿戴的體驗過程中深刻感受這些大旗的獨特魅力。

The illustrated stories of this design delve into Taiwan's traditional flag culture, particularly focusing on the diverse aspects of folk traditional flags, such as the "Big Catch" flag, temple carp flags, command flags, lead flags, vegetable knife flags, as well as event-specific flags like dragon boat flags, ghost festival flags, and team leader flags. The graphic design provides an in-depth deconstruction, analysis, and exploration of the patterns of traditional flags, presenting a rich and diverse folk color and graphic style. In practical applications, through the creation of creative badge designs, users can not only learn about the cultural stories and values behind the flags, but also deeply experience the unique charm of these large flags through the process of wearing them.

Design Concept

說到旗，第一個就會想到漁旗，以這個方向去作為思考。儎,必須加上人字旁，這就代表漁船出港返航，會把人和魚平安載回來。大旗滿儎，也意味著我們都能夠像出航的大旗一樣，滿儎而歸。

When it comes to flags, the first thing that comes to mind is the fishing flag. Taking this direction into consideration, the character '儎' must be accompanied by the radical '人,' representing the safe return of both fishermen and fish when the fishing boat sets sail or returns. The phrase '大旗滿儎' also implies that we can all return safely and fulfilled, just like the full sail of a departing ship.

隨著人類社會的發展，旗子逐漸演變成了更為複雜的形式，如帶有圖案、顏色和符號的布料。旗子的由來與人類社會的演變和需求密切相關，它在不同的歷史時期和文化中都扮演著重要的角色，更具有教育意義及文化象徵。

我們打算透過這項專案，來讓大家更了解他們的歷史脈絡、與人類發展文化的關聯。

As human society has evolved, flags have gradually developed into more complex forms, such as fabrics adorned with patterns, colors, and symbols. The origin of flags is closely related to the evolution and needs of human society, playing important roles in various historical periods and cultures, with significant educational and cultural symbolism.Through this project, we aim to deepen everyone's understanding of the historical context of flags and their relationship with the development of human culture.

中華文化源遠流長，自遠古時期，人們就利用圖文來象徵吉祥意涵及祈求庇祐，來表達趨吉避凶、嚮往幸福的心態，一直以來都是如此，因此在刺繡作品中，也出現了一些常用的吉祥圖案及具圖像象徵的圖紋，在視覺編排上也有相對應的搭配，如雙龍搶珠、雙獅戲球等。

Chinese culture has a long and rich history. Since ancient times, people have used symbols and imagery to convey auspicious meanings and seek blessings, expressing their desire for good fortune and happiness. This tradition has persisted throughout history. Therefore, in embroidery works, there are also some commonly used auspicious patterns and graphic symbols. These patterns are visually arranged with corresponding combinations, such as paired dragons chasing pearls, and paired lions playing with a ball.

將傳統單色的大旗，利用電腦稿漸層的方式來製作，並加上詳細的解說，讓它們有煥然一新的面貌，讓人們重新認識它們，保留這項傳統文化。

Transforming traditional single-color flags into computer-generated gradient designs, accompanied by detailed explanations, revitalizes their appearance and allows people to rediscover them, thus preserving this traditional culture.

牛舌旗 Cow Tongue Flag

旗幟形似牛舌，故俗稱「牛舌旗」，牛舌旗之旗面圖樣較為豐富多變，常見之圖樣有三國演義、封神演義等故事。
The flag, resembling a cow tongue, is commonly referred to as the 'Cow Tongue Flag.' The patterns on the flag are diverse and rich, often featuring stories such as those from 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' or 'Investiture of the Gods'.

普渡旗 Purdue Flag

普渡的現場有許多的供品，供品上會插上大、小不同的普渡旗，通常大的旗子會插在大五牲上，像是全豬；而小旗子則插在各家信眾準備的小份供品上，如糖果、餅乾等。
At Purdue's event, there are many offerings, adorned with Purdue flags of various sizes. Typically, large flags are inserted into offerings such as whole pigs, while smaller flags are placed on small offerings prepared by individual worshippers, such as candies, cookies, etc.

鯉魚公 Koi Fish

鯉魚公最早要追溯至日據時代，從西港慶安宮的鯉魚穴開始講起，慶安宮就蓋在鯉魚穴上，廟中神明必然神威顯赫，也因為鯉魚在傳統上也是船上的風向計後來用在王船上，鯉魚的形象便化身信仰，成為當地人十分喜愛的神明。
The origin of the 'Koi Fish God' can be traced back to the Japanese colonial era, starting with the Koi Fish Cave in the Seiganto Shrine. The shrine was built directly over the Koi Fish Cave, where the deity was believed to possess great power. Additionally, traditionally, koi fish were used as wind indicators on boats, later adapted to royal vessels. Thus, the image of the koi fish transformed into a symbol of faith and became a beloved deity among the locals.

大漁旗 The Flag of Abundant Harvest

大漁旗是受到日本殖民時期影響所帶來的文化，他們會用在新船下水典禮、出海捕魚，漁船上也經常會畫有台灣的經濟魚種，像是鯖魚、旗魚、鮪魚等等，並加上祝大漁，有著祈福、滿載豐收的意思。
The 'Dai-gyō' Flag' is a cultural phenomenon influenced by the Japanese colonial period. It is often used in ceremonies for the launching of new ships and during fishing expeditions at sea. These flags are frequently adorned with illustrations of economically significant fish species found in Taiwan, such as mackerel, swordfish, tuna, and others. Additionally, they are often inscribed with blessings for a bountiful catch, symbolizing prayers for a prosperous and fruitful harvest.

頭旗 Head Flag

頭旗為廟宇或陣頭前方領頭所持有此團體名稱之旗幟，作為開路及除煞使用。
台灣廟宇民間信仰每年辦理的遶境隊伍、文武陣頭及藝閣等，用以彰顯各社團之特色及印象，會以頭旗作為各社團的象徵，僅於廟會活動中出現。
In Taiwanese temple and procession customs, the '頭旗' (head flag) refers to the flag held at the front of a temple or procession, typically bearing the name or symbol of the leading group. It is used to lead the way and ward off evil spirits. Each year during religious processions, martial arts demonstrations, and other cultural events, various organizations display their distinctive characteristics and identities through the use of head flags, which serve as symbols of the respective groups. These flags are only seen during temple festivals and similar events.

令旗 The Command Flag

令旗代表神明權威，也有神性存在，無論是廟方還是請得令旗的信眾自然要妥善保管，但旗子畢竟是有形之物，時間久了自然會有所損壞，如果你是請令旗回家的信眾碰到這個問題，其實不用過於驚慌，在發現令旗有破損的當下就先向廟方反映，之後再討論修補與補救的方式即可。
The command flag represents the authority of the deity and carries a divine presence. Whether held by the temple or by the devotee who has received it, it is essential to handle it with care. However, as flags are physical objects, they may naturally deteriorate over time. If a devotee who has received the command flag encounters such an issue, there is no need to panic. Simply report the damage to the temple authorities as soon as it is noticed, and discuss options for repair and restoration thereafter.

菜刀旗 Vegetable Knife Flag

菜刀旗之旗身繡有祥獸圖樣，本物件以獅圖樣呈現，而其稱謂依旗身縫製的內容與布面材質有所不同，昔日以人力肩扛遊行，今多置於發財車上遊行，以祥獸圖案朝外，獸首朝前分置於兩側。
The Vegetable Knife Flag features auspicious animal patterns embroidered on the flag body. The depicted animal is often a lion. Its name varies depending on the embroidered content and fabric material of the flag body. In the past, it was carried by individuals during processions, but nowadays, it is often mounted on parade floats. The flag is displayed with the auspicious animal pattern facing outward, with the animal's head positioned towards the front on both sides.

進香旗 Incense Flag

進香旗又稱「隨香旗」，是人與神之間的信物，隨香信徒跟著神明徒步進香時會隨身攜帶，此旗幟可代表自己隨香的身分，並可請求神明護佑。只要是進香或是遶境行程表中排定的宮廟，隨香信徒都會過爐並且綁上該宮廟的符。
The Incense Flag," also known as the "Follow-Incense Flag," serves as a token between individuals and deities. Devotees carry it with them when they follow the deity on foot during incense offerings. This flag represents their identity as incense followers and serves as a request for divine protection. Whenever devotees participate in incense offerings or processions scheduled by temples, they will pass by the incense burner and tie the temple's emblem onto the flag

出版品及包裝設計

Publication and Packaging Design

共製作了一本出版品及一盒包裝，出版書冊內共有八張27*40cm的系列海報，一面是圖文介紹，另一面則是大旗的圖樣。

包裝採用翻蓋式盒型，盒內又拆分為八小盒，其中收錄了大旗刺繡徽章。

我們的概念是，進行出版品學習的同時也能夠將大旗徽章作為象徵自身的代表物、屬於自己的一面大旗。

We have produced a publication and a packaging set. The publication consists of eight 27*40cm series posters, with one side featuring graphic and textual introductions and the other side displaying the patterns of the flags.

The packaging adopts a flip-top box design, which is divided into eight compartments. Each compartment contains embroidered badges of the flags.

Our concept is to allow the learning experience from the publication to be coupled with the ownership of the flag badges, symbolizing one's representation and personal flag.

將大旗中使用到的圖騰與內容進行圖像視覺化，並加上詳細的圖文介紹製作指南海報，收錄在出版刊物裡，翻到對應的大旗拿出指南一起閱讀，重新認識大旗文化。

Visual Guide Posters with Detailed Graphic and Text Descriptions of Totems and Contents Featured in the Flags, Incorporated into the Publication, Alongside the Corresponding Flags for a Comprehensive Understanding of Flag Culture.

Exploded view

將大旗中的圖像朝內，圖文朝外，依照折線左右兩邊向內折，上下再往裡折，再將其收納至書冊中。

Fold the image of the banner inwards, with the image facing inside and the text facing outside. Fold along the creases towards the center, both left and right. Then, fold it further inward, top and bottom. Finally, tuck it into the booklet.

商品組與裝幀形式

Product Set and Presentation Format

採用翻蓋式的盒型，內裡又分為八小盒，每一款的包裝及刺繡徽章的大小不同，抽取出來的方式也不一樣，會依照旗的圖面方向決定，多了一份樂趣。

We utilize a flip-top box design, with the interior divided into eight smaller compartments. Each packaging and embroidered badge varies in size, and the method of extraction differs accordingly. It adds an element of enjoyment as the extraction method is determined by the orientation of the flag's design.

推出結合大旗圖騰的刺繡徽章，將傳統與現代時尚融合，不僅促進台灣大旗文化的認識，也讓日常穿搭增添獨特文化韻味，進一步推向國際時尚舞台。

Introducing embroidered badges featuring the iconic Taiwanese flag motif, seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary fashion. This innovative fusion not only promotes awareness of Taiwan's rich flag culture but also adds a unique cultural flair to everyday attire, propelling it onto the international fashion stage.

過本次專題研究，讓我們對大旗這項文化有了更深刻的了解，大旗所運用到的地方非常普遍,從漁船到宗廟甚至是一些大型活動都有它的蹤跡，我們將大旗所內涵的意義展現給大眾，讓人們重新認識和關注這項文化遺產。這不僅是對傳統技藝的尊重，也是對文化多樣性的呼籲。希望這個計畫能夠啟發更多人去探索和珍惜我們的文化遺產，讓大旗的精神得以永續傳承。

Through this project, we have gained a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of flags. The ubiquity of flags, from fishing boats to temples and even large-scale events, highlights their importance in various aspects of life. By showcasing the meanings embedded within flags, we aim to reintroduce and bring attention to this cultural heritage. This project not only respects traditional craftsmanship but also advocates for cultural diversity. We hope that this endeavor inspires more people to explore and cherish our cultural heritage, ensuring the enduring legacy of flag symbolism.
